Hail Al Gore!
Giving Equal Time to the Truth
In an interview with Wolf Blitzer,
March 9, 1999, Al Gore said,
"During my service in the United
States Congress, I took the
initiative in creating the Internet."
Senator Gore's leadership in
creating the Internet had been
reported in the press for years.
(click for links below) The
National Journal quote above
is indicative of Gore's long
established record as one who
took the initiative for an Internet,
just as he said in the interview.
Two days after the Blitzer interview,
a campaign began, which,
by distorting what Gore had
said and by ignoring the facts in the
public record, deceived the
public and unfairly discredited Gore.
When Newt Gingrich spoke up in
September of 2000, some of
us began to realize that we
had been deceived and attempted to
correct the false impression
that had been cunningly created.
As we learned of Gore's vision
and effort with regard to the Internet,
years before many gave it any
thought, our gratitude for that vision
and effort grew and our sense
that the public was being done a
disservice by the media increased.
Very few members of the media
attempted to correct the falsehood
that was being repeated so often.
We thought that an event recognizing
Mr. Gore's established
record in the development of
the Internet would help to undeceive
the public and made some arrangement
for such and event.
Unfortunately, the Gore campaign
people we spoke with were
as misinformed as was the general
public with regard to the credit
Mr. Gore deserved and did not
respond.
Yet, more than two years later,
on the heels of Gore's announcement
that he would not be seeking
his party's nomination, a visitor to the
original hailalgore page e-mailed
us with some words of encouragement.
Perhaps now that Mr. Gore is
out of the running, we will be able to
correct the misimpression regarding
him that was created to gain an
advantage in the 2000 election.
We hope so.
Regardless of what Mr. Gore's
political future may be, he deserves
recognition for his vision and
determination, the results of which
benefit so many of us in such
remarkable ways. We would be so
pleased to thank Mr. Gore personally,
but would also be pleased
to be represented by others
who share our gratitude for work so
well done. Our anonymous visitor

Why hailmaryshelley.com is eager to see Mr. Gore's
vision and
effort recognized.
The idea of getting the truth out about
Gore & Internet, and a
non-political appreciation event sounds
great.
Mainstream media probably not much help,
since they've pushed the
"invented" line since March '99....
it'd be embarrassing to them.
It's even fitting/ironic that the 'Net
would reveal the truth (instead
of media) considering Gore's vision
and work.
?? Plan an event for some reasonable
future date, and use the 'Net to
promote it, and also raise awareness
of Gore's work. That event could
then be used to increase awareness
to an even higher level.
Gore still has some political baggage,
since he's planning to help Dem.
party... but not as much as if he was
running for '04.
For event: Invite Vinton
Cerf, Mark Andreessen (Mosaic), Newt
Gingrich, etc. to generate more media
interest. Also people who's lives have
been improved by the 'Net Put the video,
audio, and transcript of event out
on 'Net (very appropriate!!)
The 'Net is almost taken for granted
today, and it's become indispensable.
Al Gore definitively deserves recognition
for his vision and work.
the above is from an anonymous visitor e-mailed
us mid December
'02 to say: "For months prior to the Nov.
'00 election, I also tried to
get media and the Gore campaign to straighten
out the "invented the
'Net" and other lies---also with NO luck."
"The Internet has made many new wonderful things
possible for so many
people. If Gore did have a part
to play in the coming of the WWW for
public consumption and enjoyment, then
thanks are indeed owed to him"
(Pete, UK). We think Pete will appreciate
that Al Gore truly did take the initiative
in Congress in creating the Internet when
he reads Giving Equal Time to the Truth
